As of April 1st, 2022, a major change quietly reshaped the appraisal world: for most mortgage-related appraisals, home measurements must now follow ANSI® Z765-2021 guidelines.

ANSI, short for the American National Standards Institute, created a national rulebook for how to measure the square footage of residential properties. It's all about creating consistency and accuracy across the board in the real estate industry.
